Portrait of Julien Castets

Julien Castets, aka niluje / brmzkw, fullstack & infrastructure engineer.

I build the infrastructure
other engineers build on.

Currently building backup infrastructure at Plakar. Open to a few days of consulting

What I love

Infrastructure is what gets me up in the morning

I like it best when what I build isn't the end product, but the thing other people build their own product on.

The common thread: good infrastructure is invisible. I like building the part nobody notices, so everything on top of it just works.

Range

Comfortable across the whole stack

"Fullstack" for me means more than frontend and backend: it's systems and network too, and everything else it takes to get something into production.

How I work

Scope is a suggestion

I know how to program, and I enjoy it, but writing code has never been the goal for me. The goal is doing whatever the project actually needs. In practice, that has meant:

Some of that is engineering in its own way: designing a hiring process is really just designing a system for people. Cooking for twenty people at an offsite isn't. Either way, it needed doing, and I'd rather be useful than stay inside a job description.

Let's talk

Available for a few days of consulting

I'm currently full-time at Plakar and not looking for a new role. That said, I'm sometimes available for short, focused consulting engagements: an infrastructure audit, help unblocking a gnarly backend problem, or a fresh senior pair of eyes on your stack, done remotely from Prague, Czech Republic.
